Anytime you exercise, you release positive hormones and endorphins. Have you ever heard the expression "runners high"? After a nice run or jog, the feeling you get is very euphoric and often can help relieve symptoms of stress and anxiety. It doesn't need to be hard or super intense exercise to experience the benefits. Even a light to moderate 30 minute walk can have a very positive affect on your mood, health and well-being.

If you don't exercise, the best time to start is now. Grab a pair of dumbbells, go for a little walk, just get the body moving! Your mood will thank you.

A quick tip I want to throw your way is a relatively simple one, but will help you fitness progress immensely - logging your workouts.

What I mean by logging is writing down your workouts/training as well as how it went. It's important to not train blind and this also allows you a way to look back and notice trends in your workouts. Maybe it's overtraining, under-training, etc. There are many apps that you can use to help with this, or a simple pen and paper go a long way.

Logging is worth it, trust me! ??

You're gonna love this one! Lots of drop-sets and giant sets in here. In case you don't know, a giant set is 2+ exercise set done back to back. And a drop set is when you lower the weight after each set and do more reps back to back. In this workout, we have a few triple drop sets.

This one should be done at a gym ideally. Give it a try and let me know how it goes! ??

A topic that needs a lot of importance, especially when you're hanging at the beach, is water intake. Sooooo many people are chronically dehydrated that it's actually unreal to me. Our body is made up of primarily water and the fact that people still don't drink enough of it baffles me. Being properly hydrated keeps you running efficiently, smoothly and ideally.

The good news is that if you are chronically drinking too little water, you can change that in about a one minute. A very easy rule of thumb is aim for half your bodyweight in ounces at rest for water intake. This does not include things like caffeine drinks that can dehydrate you. I'm talking good old fashioned water.

Another trick I found for getting my intake up is to use a straw when sipping. Sound dumb, but it does work.

Up your water. It's a relatively easy thing to do that you body will more than appreciate. ? ? ?

Being fit doesn’t stop at just weight training. Make sure your routine includes aerobic fitness, strength training, core exercises, balance training, and even stretching. So if you love the weight room, like I do, find a fun option for your aerobic fitness like running, cycling, etc. People often neglect a fitness area thinking that it won’t help their overall progress for their goals. But in actuality, being fit everywhere will help your total fitness.

1) Slow it down! Train with purpose. I preach slowing it down a lot but with chest, that muscle contraction is very important.

2) Focus more on incline. Yes, that’s correct. Incline will help work that “upper shelf” and give an illusion of a bigger chest.

3) Don’t solely do bench or push exercises. Flyes are just as important!

4) You might have to hit chest more than once per week. If it’s very slow to respond, try pairing chest with shoulders on a secondary day.

? Want to get bigger? Here are two of my favorite tips to help...

1) You need to prioritize your rest. Remember, you grow when you rest, not when you train. If you are working out every day, and not properly recovering, this may be why your progress is stuck!
2) Keeping protein a little lower, while carbs and fat a little higher. This one may surprise you but if you're eating in a surplus to grow, you don't need as much as protein. My rule for growth phases is to back protein down to 1-1.25 grams per pound of bodyweight.

When I used to train clients in person, I saw a lot of their anxiety and struggles greatly improve once they had a routine in their day. Routines are important for not only your rest and recovery, but your mental health as well.
