It’s crazy when we sit back & really think about it, we lived in Italy during a time like no other.

The world had shut down & borders were still closed which meant tourism was at an all time LOW!!! Which meant we got to explore Italy & parts abroad almost ALONE- places that normally had lines to get in & should have been packed almost shoulder to shoulder were vacant. & for a couple who’s always disliked big crowds, this honestly couldn’t have worked out better for us.

Back in 2020, as the world slowly emerged from the heavy grip of COVID quarantine, we made our first trip outside from our restriction of movement after being held up in a hotel for 8 months!

We ventured to Paestum, after our little lock up, a hidden gem on the southern coast of Italy. The ancient city, once known as Poseidonia, had been founded by Greek settlers centuries ago. It stood proudly by the sea, its three remarkable Doric temples rising majestically from the earth—each one a testament to ancient craftsmanship and devotion to the gods.

As we wandered through the ruins, we marveled at the grand Temple of Hera, the Temple of Poseidon, and the Temple of Ceres, all surprisingly well-preserved. The silence of the site was almost surreal, a stark contrast to the bustling world we’d left behind. The Paestum Archaeological Museum brought the past to life with painted tombs and intricate pottery, and we stood in awe before the “Tomb of the Diver”, a mysterious 5th-century burial with images of the afterlife.

Paestum, once forgotten, had been rediscovered, and there we were, standing in the shadow of ancient history, feeling the weight of time and the freedom of a world opening up again. It was the perfect place for our first escape, a bridge between the past and a future we were finally able to explore, with no one in our way of the views.

How incredible.

I was really tired of these cabinets & their awful “distressed” look actually just looked dirty all of the time.
