recalibrating recharging reconnecting I forgot how difficult September’s are for me personally. I think I’ll take them off from here on out…which sucks because the fall is when things start to pick up but authenticity over popularity validity over money. so I can make sure I’m showing up to a space that can often be very harmful to myself and others in a helpful way. so I can give myself enough time to myself to show up as myself online, no fakes. so I can double check I’m not losing myself in business, still cultivating a life outside of work despite living in America with this incredibly addicting job that not only fulfills me monetarily but emotionally as well. I am forever lucky and thank the universe every day for a shot at this work. I just need to make sure I’m showing up right,
for you. for me. ily. be back so soon.

it’s sooo hard to take cute pics in a messy van but I spent 8 days in a van, trying this life out and I must say although I can definitely hang, I miss my space. I miss my smells, aesthetics and my kitchen. and do not even get me started on my bathtub!! it’s the first thing I’m doing when I get home, jeez. the dream would be to have both - a home and a van if you wanted to leave your life for a little and travel up to the mountains, you could. but I like my life in the city too much right now to do this full time, phew. I’m excited to be home tomorrow ♥️

and last but not least - SUGAR HEALS!

The Sugar Cure -
“Applying glucose and insulin topically to the wound, it heals quickly. The very old practice of treating deep wounds with honey or granulated sugar has been studied in controlled situations, including the treatment of diabetic ulcers, infected deep wounds following heart surgery, and wounds of lepers. The treatment eradicates bacterial infections better than some antiseptics and accelerates healing without scarring, or with minimal scarring. The sugar regulates the communication between cells and optimizes the synthesis of collagen and extracellular matrix.” -Ray Peat, PhD

... also i ran out of juice as I'm still sick bb - so I linked all the studies that I was going to use in this post!

if you're interested in reading about them, see below! this is where I get most of my information!

sidenote: just because the study is old doesn't make it less valuable!
i would argue that older studies are actually more trustworthy as science started to be heavily influenced by money around the 1960's.

Why I fight to ovulate (and why it has nothing to do with pr..

Why I fight to ovulate (and why it has nothing to do with pregnancy and everything to do with longevity)

Long story short: I fight to ovulate so my body makes progesterone monthly.

Long story long:

Many women assume that if they have a regular period they regularly ovulate, but we can bleed once a month without having an ovulation.
Anovulatory cycles are commonly the cause of low progesterone since ovulation is the only way we MAKE progesterone.

Low progesterone levels can leave us with symptoms of poor bloood sugar control and susceptibility to stress: like feeling anxious, not sleeping well, low temperatures, moodiness, miscarriages, tender breasts and pms symptoms during the second half of our cycles.

It is our first defense against stress and has lifelong impacts on our brain, our BONES, our liver, our breasts, our uterus and our ovaries since we have so many progesterone receptors in these areas.

If you know a woman who struggles with PCOS, PMDD, Endo, Depression, Anxiety, PMS, autoimmunity or thyroid issues, Progesterone is absolutely ESSENTIAL to your loved one’s well-being.

In the words of Dr. Ray Peat: (whom I get all of my information from)

“ In several ways both progesterone and thyroid hormone can be considered primary regulatory hormones. Both of them regulate metabolism directly at the energetic and synthetic levels: both have a normalizing, anti-stress action on the pituitary gland; and each has a promoting action on the other. Both are blocked (and consumed) by stress and promoted by light and good nutrition. Both are nutrients in cultures that eat the whole animal, including ovaries and thyroid, butter, cream and milk contain small amounts of progesterone and shellfish seems to be a good source.”

Progesterone deficiency can look vastly different from individual to individual, but can commonly look like:
-PMS
- water retention during the luteal phase (
- metabolic Issues & low blooood sugar
- anxiety
- constant tension
- rapid aging & muscle loss
- insomnia

How I track:
Cheap at-home method:
the best way to tell if we ovulated is to look for a 0.6-1.0 degree temperature increase, egg white cervical mucusus, and check our cervical position for soft and open.

More expensive bt double the reassurance: dutch test from a functional doc but make sure to take the test 5-6 days after you see your temps increase.

How I fight:
Having strong ovulation requires NUTRIENTS and ENERGY. We don't ovulate well when we don't nourish ourselves well.

Carbs from nutrients like honey, dairy, fruits and roots (carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes)
Protein from meats, dairy, eggs, organ meats, gelatinous foods and seafood.
Fats from butter, cream, chocolate, and tallow are

These foods are all nourishing on so many levels.

So, ladies (or men with ladies close to their hearts)

Step one:
provide the body with an abundance of nutrient-dense foods (see above)

Step two:
reduce stress by balancing bloood sugar with the right amount and balance of protein, carb and fat frequently enough
(I eat every three hours to balance my bloood sugar when there’s not a parasite chillin')

Step three:
become aware of both internal and external stressors and taking steps to reduce them:
sleep, sunlight, exercise, relationships, stress levels, etc.
(I do this through bodywork, somatic therapy, saunas, healthy boundaries, mediations, gratitude, and red light when I don't have access to sun.)

Kale doesn’t love you back To start this topic off, I want..

Kale doesn’t love you back

To start this topic off, I wanted to get one thing straight.

Plants are alive.

If you dont believe that plants are alive, then this post isn’t for you! Carry on!

But if you understand that plants are alive, we can have a discussion :)

Long story short: plants have evolved to not get eaten.

Fruits, on the other hand, want to be eaten because they want to spread their seeds around the world so they can continue to repopulate.

When an animal eats a fruit, its seeds are spread out wherever the animal either spits, chews, or poops.

(Seeds can make it through the digestive tract which is also why I don't eat seeds. They’re SO hard to digest because their purpose to go make it to the soil!)

Plants, however, are stuck to the ground.
Plants had to evolve to somehow stay alive while being attached to the ground.

They did this by creating chemical compounds inside of their cells that wreak havoc on human digestion.

Here’s a list of how plants have chemically evolved to not get eaten - we call this “antinutrients” which basically cancel out any of the good that plants have to offer.

* Phytates- Present in grains and beans block zinc absorption
* Lectins- High in legumes and grains block mineral absorption
* Oxalates- Present in green leafy vegetables and nuts. Blocks calcium and iron. It’s why almond milk is not only bad for you, but Dairy is 2000 Times More Ethical Than Almond Milk but that’s for another time bb :D
* Goitrogens- Present in brassicas like broccoli block thyroid hormones
* Tannins- Found in tea, chocolate, and wine block iron absorption
* Polyphenols- found in ‘brightly colored plants’ block iron absorption (I actually use this to my advantage sometimes!)

“Okay but what if I cooked my plants?”

If you’re cooking out the harmful chemicals found in plants, you are also cooking out anything good left.

I have seen some people cook vegetable broths the same way you would make bone broth or beef broth. Simmer it for 24 hours and drink the broth without the vegetables to obtain the nutrients from the plants.

Or you could just eat animal-based and you wouldn’t have to go through all of that!

It’s important to note that the ways in which these plants have evolved to not get eaten impacts everyone differently.
If you’re metabolically ill, you might feel better taking them out like myself.

To put simply

I was very sick.

I cut out veggies and began to feel noticeably better

I'm STILL dealing with the damage that lectins and oxalates did to my organs.
And of course, it's not JUST veggies that made me sick but what I'm saying is it was def a problem to consume these chemicals in high amounts!

If veggies make you feel great, great! Eat up.

If something still isn’t right….look into going veggie-free for a week and see what happens!

The only veggie I've had in months is a raw carrot every day.

But I peel away the skin of the carrot and I leave the remains in vinegar to help break down the harmful chemicals in the carrot.
It helps with digestion and im still getting the benefits from the carrot!

Which is also kind of a hot take because our soil is SO depleted nowadays that the nutrient profiles of our produce is incredibly weak in comparison to 100 years ago.

If this post gets over 50 in tips, I will go into why i eat a raw carrot every day next week! The science is pretty nifty.
(I'm also curious to see if yall actually read to the end hehe)

Alright here we go friday! The best cheese for lactose intol..

Alright here we go friday! The best cheese for lactose intolerance:

You need calcium for many, many reasons. But a lot of us can’t handle lactose. Or so we thought….

Diiiiiiidja know that one tablespoon of milk three times a day with food for three weeks builds up your lactose enzyme?

You can train your body to digest milk!

Diiiiiiidja know our northern ancestors added milk into their diet specifically for the vitamin d and calcium?

We have evolved to digest milk yet we are SO sick as a society that people are blaming their fucked up guts to dairy.

And its not about the dairy, its

a) what’s in the dairy (synthetic gums fuck me up)
b) where the dairy is sourced (is the cow a stressed cow? is he eating what a cow has evolved to eat? Is the cow loaded with hormones?)
c) your body stopped making the enzyme to break down dairy because you stopped giving it dairy!

So, try the tablespoon of milk a day.

And while you’re building it up,

Eat Parmigiano-Reggiano and here’s why:

Parmigiano-Reggiano is a complete, genuine nutriment, a real nourishing food, and it’s the right answer for healthy and balanced nourishment.

Digestibility -

Parmigiano-Reggiano is a “simplified digestion” food; it contains in fact 7,5% of free amino acids (a quantity that is decidedly larger than any other kind of cheese) that can be assimilated and absorbed by the organism without any digestion process.

Moreover, it stimulates the gastric production thus helping to digest other foods, too. We loooooove that! That’s why it is useful and correct to eat flakes of Parmigiano-Reggiano as hors-d’oeuvre or at the end of the meal.

Proteins -

Thanks to its high protein contribution (the protein content is about 35%), Parmigiano-Reggiano can offer an important contribution to diet :)

Vitamins -

Milk and cheese in our food share are not aliments that can satisfy our daily vitamin needs. However, 100 grams of Parmigiano-Reggiano can cover about 40% of Vitamin A daily needs and 20% of Vitamin B2, while they provide for a far larger quantity of Vitamin B12 than the physiological needs. In general, the vitamin content of Parmigiano – Reggiano is on average larger, especially as far as beta-carotene, Vitamin A, B2, B6, B12 are concerned, compared to the content of other kinds of cheese. These vitamins are important both for growing and for a protective and anti-toxic action, thus helping the formation of antibodies and defense against polluting agents that are increasingly present in the environment

It is a nonfat type of cheese – the fat content (about 20%) is the lowest compared to all other types of cheese with the exception of “mozzarella” (milky buffalo cheese) and stracchino; it's also important to note that the maturing process transforms these fats thus making them easily absorbable by the organism.

The experts recommend the use of Parmigiano-Reggiano because of its easy digestion! Thanks to its extraordinary properties it becomes a natural food integrator, necessary for those who go in for a sport and especially if it’s a sport of strength like wrestling, weight-lifting, boxing.

It is not by chance that in the special diet of Olympic athletes Parmigiano-Reggiano plays an important role. :D

ALSO!

It's excellent also for children and elderly people.
Pediatrists recommend it as nutriment for children because of its protein, vitamin, and calcium abundance, and digestibility which are extremely useful for children's growth.

It’s proved scientifically that after 15-18 months of maturing, enzymes without additives, have therapeutic action in treating viral and bacterial enteritis typical of children in the first months of life, so much so that it can also replace antibiotics normally prescribed for those illnesses.

Parmigiano-Reggiano is also recommended for elderly people thanks to its large content of phosphorous and calcium (indispensable to fight osteoporosis) and for its digestibility that makes it easily absorbable.
