Happy Monday loves!π Here is a quick lesson on some the chemistry that goes into soap makingπ§ͺ Sodium hydroxide, or more commonly known as lye, is a chemical compound that maintains the pH of skincare products. Itβs important to understand the role that sodium hydroxide plays in keeping skin healthy and why itβs a key ingredient in soap. You must use it to make cold process soap, like the ones I make!π In soap making sodium hydroxide is combined with water, and then a chemical change happens, it begins to heat up and can reach temperatures up to 200 degrees. π₯΅ so it is caustic and can be extremely dangerous to work with. Always make sure youβre being careful when working with any sort of chemicalsπ± Love, Wrenπ©π»βπ¬
