I love the feeling of leaving one year behind me and starting a new one "fresh" - even if it's just the switch of a calendar page, to me personally, New Years Eve has always meant looking toward change. This year, however, I know many elements of my life as it is now will not change with the flip of a calendar page - especially extremely, extremely challenging ones with respect to my mom's declining health. So instead of looking for change ... this year, I'm striving to simply keep going just as I am. I'm reminding myself that I got myself through this year as I am ... so staying the course is not just "okay", it's also brave. I'm going to keep doing my best, even if that means staying exactly where I am, and that's just as good as looking toward improving. So if you're making it through hard times and feeling pressure to apply changes as we leave 2023 behind, just remember that staying where you're at is good, too - as long as you simply keep going.
