From the end of Loch Eil, things get exciting for Harry Potter fans: the next highlight just before the railway station in Glenfinnan is the Glenfinnan Viaduct, probably the best-known and most famous part of the Hogwarts Express route.
The 380 metre long structure consists of 21 piers that are up to 30 metres high. At the time of its completion, the viaduct was a pioneering technical achievement, as it was one of the first large (tamped) concrete bridges ever built.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct draws its charm from the landscape around it: in the background are jagged peaks, often surrounded by clouds. In the foreground runs the long Glen Shiel with the loch of the same name, which incidentally also plays its part in Harry Potter. Kisses from a happy Harry Potter-Fan! 🩷😘
