Mardi Gras Season Reveling. Mardi Gras season has started and bigger parades begin week after next! I know not all of you who are on my page understand or know the ins and outs of Mardi Gras season. So I’ll do my best to give you all a glimpse of what’s going on in my life and around the city of New Orleans right now. This weekend I hosted a King Cake party at a local Bed and Breakfast. Along with being a professional hot girl, I’ve also been a food blogger/instagrammer for years. & I am absolutely obsessed with King Cakes. If you missed my king cake post, please go back and find it to understand what a king cake is. I’ll be labeling all of these posts under “Mardi Gras” as well. Anyway, this was my 4th year hosting a king cake party for foodies, influencers, and chefs alike to come together. We take photos of all of the cakes. We socialize. We slice them all up and everyone takes a box of slices home. 💜 We also had a local vendor in accessories come through. It was super fun and cute. After the King Cake party, I went to a float build with my Krewe. Again, if you’re not from here this term might be a little confusing. Every Mardi Gras parade is run by a Krewe, or a group of people/revealers. Within that crew, are smaller krewes. My Mardi Gras Krewe marches in three parades: Chewbacchus, Boheme, and Saint Anne. Every year we pick a theme. This year is “Bugtopia.” Based off of this, we choose our costumes. Some people make even smaller sub krewes for group costumes. Sub krewes I know of this year are The Fire Ant Army (which I imagine is under the Ant Queen), The Monarchy (butterflies, kinda under me the Butterfly Queen), and one that’s an undetermined green bug(?). We also choose the design for our hand pulled float (with a dancing stage on top!) & customize our throws which are all hand made. This year our float is a Staghorn beetle. So Saturday night was hours of Papier-mâché in the cold to create a massive staghorn beetle head. For me that is. Other Krewe members had other jobs. Like cutting things out and painting them or making the legs for the beetle. Or constructing the body of the beetle on the cart. Sunday I went to a “throw party” where we all get together to make the throws. The krafts we focused on where toxic waste barrels (our signature throw), snail mail (envelopes containing cute messages), and hair clips (think flowers with rhinestones and bugs). After the throw party, I went to a crawfish boil for a friends birthday. I wore my “Suck the Head” shirt for the day. For those of you who have never eaten a crawfish, you take their head off and suck the juice out of it. They also had a green gumbo. Let’s just say I ate a LOT of food. 🤤 Once the sun set, we built a little fire and some of the people started playing guitar and singing. It was really nice. Things eventually wrapped up there, and I headed over to a Christmas tree burning. Which I’ve never been to before, but apparently Christmas trees are VERY flammable! Who knew? Anyway, if you got this far, I hope you enjoyed my weekend re-cap and Mardi Gras info. 💋
