when I was at the supported living house for two weeks I learned about "distraction boxes" which are super helpful for people with ADHD.
a distraction box is a nifty little sanctuary with lots of self-soothing ideas and activities. I'm currently building mine so it's a little empty but so far I've got a decorated jar. Inside the jar I've written on little pieces of paper some reminders of activities I like to do. Examples include: yoga, French, watch a film, finish a puzzle, find a new park, video call a friend, do some colouring in, go swimming.
This jar will be helpful when I'm feeling frazzled and need a way to burn off some energy. It's also a good source of dopamine, the hormone that most ADHDers are obsessed with, so the experience of plucking out a random activity from my jar of secrets will be fantastic for me. It's simple but fun!
I've made an Amazon wish list of some things I'd like to pack my activity box with. You can use this list as inspiration for your own distraction box or you can help me fill mine! I've linked it in my bio!
