I know Americans really cornered the market on Christmas cookies but they actually date back to the Danes from the 17th century! The association with gingerbread for the holiday supposedly comes from this Brothers’ Grimm tale of Hansel and Gretel (no joke!) and people making their own decorative festive cookies for the holiday. 🎄
For the record, I made all my own Christmas cookies one year. All different kinds. I even wore something like this while I did it. Not only is a bakery-bought better, but I was covered and flour and a skimpy outfit does not, in fact, protect your buns from a hot oven behind you! 🙃🤭
