I have gained 32 pounds (14.5 kg) and I wish I had measured my thighs at the beginning because I swear their circumference has almost doubled! I have lots of extra skin on my back and under my breasts, a little extra fat all over and obviously my tummy has stretched. My vagina is unrecognizable to me with all its new folds and I can’t see it without a mirror. The change has felt uncomfortable and strange, but somehow also safe and natural. I know the journey through postpartum will be littered with body image obstacles but I am making a promise to myself today to keep loving my body and remembering that it is doing what it needs to do to sustain life. I couldn’t have intellectualized this process as well as my body just did it automatically. I cannot rely on my brain for even 1/10th of what I used to be able to do with it, so I just surrender. Creating life is humbling and I’m enjoying living in a space where my body (not my mind) dictates everything in my awareness. 💜🤰🏼💜
