Today, I discovered that another one of our trees is hickory tree, and I identified one of our shrubs as Chinese privet (putatively poisonous -- we'll see how my stomach handles the berries, but they are definitely bitter!). I also raked around one of our oldest oaks, and I've been harvesting the acorns, which are much larger than the acorns I harvested yesterday from the oaks closer to our house. If you have any suggestions on how I can get the rest of that greenbrier down without damaging the plant, I'm all ears! Seems like I'm going to have to go out there with a ladder or something. Oh, I also found my first wild mushrooms on the property! I haven't IDed them yet, so we'll see if they're actually edible, but I look forward to using them in compost, if nothing else.
