I’d had a loud argument with my ex that landed us both incarcerated for the evening. No charges were filed. That night though, I had to sit with the rage that I’d felt in that moment. I had to see that i was capable of that emotion, and that i was losing the little bit of control i has managed to hold together at the time. It made me want to hate myself. Instead, i used that knowledge and self awareness as the final straw. I held onto the energy of that moment and channeled into drive to escape my self built hell. Seven years ago today, we went to court and refused to press charges, as it was nothing more than neighbors assuming the worst due to volume. Afterward, we packed what we could fit into my civic and i left the east coast, finding sobriety by the time i made it west.
