-MOVE FROM NHILL, VIC TO WA, KALGOORLIE AT 19- This by far was one of the HARDEST and challenging experiences I have ever had to go through to this date. As excited and enthusiastic as I was moving across the country with someone who I’ve since parted ways with was, it also came with a huge amount of guilt. Guilt of leaving a toxic family situation and siblings in that situation is something that to this day was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. It is something that sounds so selfish but when you’re brought up feeling like you have to constantly try to protect and be there for the ones that need it, you eventually reach breaking point (details about that and the important of seeking help when it comes to domestic violence to come at a later date…) I was 19 when me and my boyfriend at the time decided we would embark on the journey to move across the country to start fresh and to save up money and start a new life together; ours. He was my first proper real love and although things weren’t perfect on both parts I really did love him; how I thought love was meant to be in that point of time. We previously lived together for just over a year and after a few months of constantly talking about what our options were, we decided to embark on this journey. He got a job as an operator in the mines and moved over to Kalgoorlie, WA in early 2020 and I followed a few months later as I was still feeling a huge amount of guilt and wasn’t actually sure if I wanted to go or not. Fast forward 2 months later after multiple rejected covid exemptions, I finally got accepted and went for it. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without my childhood bestie and her kind, warm welcoming family. For that I am forever grateful🤍🤍 Touching down in WA was rough, I had to isolate in hotel quarantine for 2 weeks in Perth which was arranged prior to flying. It gave me plenty of time with my thoughts but am thankful for having my camera to take pics outside my windows and for the friends I constantly video called. Perth is such an amazing city, it’s like a cross between Melbourne and Adelaide if youve been there. I spent around $1998 of my own money on the hotel accomodation and food wasn’t included in that, Uber eats was my best friend. Much to the medias portrayal there was no police outside my door, also there wasn’t a balcony in my room. The only time someone of authority actually checked up on me was around day 12 when they asked if I had any covid symptoms and I was aloud out to get a covid test from a clinic and go straight back into quarantining. Thankfully the test came back negative and I had my flight to Kalgoorlie booked on day 15 and flew out then. When I touched down there was literally red dirt EVERYWHERE! Coming from a small country town this was actually quite a shock. Kalgoorlie is also a mining town so they have plenty of literal holes in the ground and planned blasts! The first time a planned blast went it felt like an earthquake (they get small earthquakes as well) There’s plenty of places to go camping around Kalgoorlie and to travel to (more to come at a later date) Moving to Kalgoorlie was one of the most challenging and greatest learning experiences I have ever been through and I am forever grateful for the learning experiences and for the amazing people I have met along the way. It’s sooooo important that if you’re presented with an opportunity to absolutely go for it because you never know where it can take you…
